What the Keto?
Ketogentics, ever heard of it? No? Yeah me too until last week I had no idea what it was. Basically it is a high fat, low carb and moderate protein diet. It means you can eat bacon, eggs and butter all day and still lose weight and be healthier. Sounds too good to be true right? Well it’s not and is actually so much better for you because as humans we are natural fat burners.
After some research and wanting to be healthier; I’ve decided to give it a try. I’ve been trying to lose weight my whole life and no that’s not a joke. I’ve always been bigger than all my friends. My mom use to say, “you’ve just not lost your baby weight yet.” Well I’m 24 so I can’t say that anymore 😂. I always thought I ate pretty healthy and I’ve always like fruits and vegetables but my issue has always been sugar and carbs. Also growing up in the time I did, almost all the foods we ate growing up were processed. Frozen dinners, box mac and cheese and lots of chicken nuggets. Little did I know that all that processed food had started my addiction to the taste of sugar. Sugar is in so much of the foods you eat and hides under names like, high fructose corn syrup, fruit concentrate, etc but it all comes down to being broken down as glucose in your body to be used as energy. When the sugar you eat is used for energy then the fats you do eat are not needed and are stored instead. Carbohydrates also contain those sugars we talked about and once broken down give you a small burst of energy and leave you always craving more. However healthy fats such as nuts, natural oils, avocados and butter do not contain glucose and therefore your body starts using those fats as energy.
My brother recently also started this diet so I asked him to explain a little, here’s what he has to say (also he’s really good at giving encouraging words)
As I keep going through this process I will be posting weekly updates to show not only my progress but also different things about the keto diet that I’ve learned though my research. I’m excited to start this journey and to have you follow me though it.
